HUMMUS:

a paste, dip or spread made of chickpeas. It is mashed up with garlic, oil, lemon juice and tahini. It is usually eaten with some sort of pita or spread on Greek foods. It has a good amount of protein, fiber and healthy fats for you to enjoy!

This is an extremely popular spread (dip) throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East areas of the world and has become a very popular addition in the American world as well.

It has been made and eaten for over thousands of years. Rumors have it that even Plato and Socrates wrote about the benefits of hummus…so you know it’s good!

You can make by blending chickpeas, tahini (ground sesame seeds), olive oil and lemon juice. This dip is not only delicious, but it’s also extremely healthy.

In fact, there has been suggested research that just by eating hummus could help with blood sugar control, weight management, heart health and just make you feel good.

This could be mainly due to its main ingredient chickpeas! Chickpeas, are an excellent source of protein/fiber and are also known to some as garbanzo beans. Because of the ingredients in Hummus, it also contains heart-healthy fats from olive oil and tahini.

You can eat hummus as a dip with pita bread, crackers or fresh vegetables..
